Magister Leave of Absence

New Guidance on Magister Sabbaticals
  1. Credit Accumulation: Faculty serving as Magisters will accrue an additional 1.2 sabbatical credits per semester of service (2.2 credits total while serving as a Magister). Over a standard five-year Magister term, this results in 12 additional credits, aligning with one semester of sabbatical at full pay.
  2. Credit Cap: For Magisters, the maximum sabbatical credit cap is 36 (up from the standard 24 for non-Magister faculty). Once a faculty member hits the 36-credit cap, they will stop accruing additional sabbatical credits until they begin using the time already banked.
  3. Deferred Magister Leaves: If a Magister leave of absence (LOA) is deferred, it remains a distinct, earned benefit and does not impact the faculty member's ability to accrue additional sabbatical credits for service. Faculty may take this leave at a later time without impacting their sabbatical clock, provided prior approval was granted.
  4. No Sabbatical Payout: Sabbatical leave is a time-bound academic benefit, not a financial one. Faculty may not receive payout in lieu of leave.
